Family-made tamales and Mexican plates — voted Lubbock's best. Same hands, same masa, same little kitchen the Leals have run since 1957.

Christmas orders are open
We're already taking holiday orders by phone. Call us, tell us how many dozen and which kinds, and we'll write your name down for pickup. Holiday orders go out on two days this year: food on the 23rd, tamales on Christmas Eve.
By the second week of December every steamer we have is spoken for. The sooner you call, the easier it is for us to say yes.
We don't ship. Every holiday order is picked up here at 6205 19th St.

From the third week of October through December, we're selling tamales at the corner of 83rd Street and the Highway 87 / I-27 frontage road. The stand carries pork tamales only. For chicken, bean, or cheese, come see us at the factory on 19th Street.
Questions about the stand, or anything else? Call the factory and ask.

Hours & DirectionsThe Family Behind the Factory
Tony Jaramillo dreamed of running a small kitchen with Alma, a place where they'd sell tamales by the dozen and feed neighbors by the plate. He never got to see all of it. Alma did. After Tony passed, she kept the masa moving, kept the recipe steady, and kept the doors open through every kind of week Lubbock has seen. Now Victor (Tony and Alma's son) runs the factory she built. The roots go deeper than this kitchen alone: in 1957, Irma and Jesse Leal opened Leal's Tortilla Factory and started a family habit. Three generations later, we're still in it.
We don't have a 200-store distribution chain or a fancy showroom. What we have is a little hole in the wall on 19th Street where the masa hits the steamer at sunup and the regulars start showing up before noon. Other tamale companies hide their prices and ship from a warehouse two cities over. We post our prices, fold each one by hand, and ask you to come on by.

Mon–Fri, 10:30 AM to 8 PM
The masa hits the steamer before the doors open. Pork in red chile starts cooking at sunup, the chicken simmers in green salsa, and the green chile gets roasted off in batches that fill the kitchen with a smell every regular knows. By 11:30 the counter is stacked with boxes waiting on names — the dental office across the way, the construction crew working on a job nearby, the family who's been ordering a half-dozen for thirty years.
We're open Monday through Friday, 10:30 AM to 8 PM, and on Saturdays from noon to 5 for tamales only. Call (806) 780-LEAL and it'll be boxed and waiting, or order through DoorDash if you're across town. Sundays the kitchen rests and the family is home.
